The Challenges of Hiring Designers

Needle.

I’ve been hiring creative talent all my life, but unfortunately, practice doesn’t make perfect here. There’s something about hiring designers that just makes it Mission Impossible.

For months I would post on job boards, get hundreds of applications, go through them, and a week later (literally takes 7 days), it all turns out to be a huge waste of time. It’s no fun opening 100+ emails, open portfolio links in new tabs, clog the browser, and crash the whole computer. I would spend hours closing tabs as I go through portfolios that are not even remotely close to what I’m looking for.

So the question is, why is it so difficult? I’ve hired for sales, marketing, administration, and it’s nowhere near this challenging.
